Grapes Of Wrath Essay -- essays research papers fc

John Steinbeck uses symbolism to enrich his writing. Several of these symbols can be found in his book, The Grapes of Wrath. The Joads, a family from Oklahoma, are in search of a better life. They leave their central office in journey to California because of the dust bowl. The symbols in the book are the dust, the turtleneck, names of people, and the grapes. These symbols give the reader an additional perspective of the book. Dust represents life and death. Dust makes a mess of things and leaves possessions under a muddied film. The farming in Oklahoma becomes difficult because the heavy winds uplift the soil and carry it great distances. Then the farmers are left with no soil to get under ones skin their crops. The Joads livelihood depends on the soil. If the soil is rich, then it will feed hundreds. But if the soil is dry, it destroys crops and causes famine. The dust covers Oklahoma and leaves the Joad family with no other choice, but to move. The Joads journey to California is as slow as a turtle. Heat in the desert, car problems, and the death of the grandparents make the journey long and painful. A turtle shelters himself by pulling his head, legs, and tail inside his cause. The Joads gather together as a family to comfort and shelter themselves. A turtle feels safe when it enters his shell and the Joads feel safe when they gather as a family. There is symbolic significance in the names of characters throughout The Grapes of Wrath. Tom, one of the main characters, is hitchhiking home when he stumbles upon a preacher by the name of Jim Casey. Jim baptized Tom, but now he is no longer preaching because he has found that everything is holy and man needs no preacher. His initials are J.C. which are the same as Jesus Christ. Jim shows similar characteristics to Jesus Christ. He sacrifices himself for Tom. Tom has caused a deputy to tolerant his suspect and is said to be under arrest, but Casey steps in and takes the blame. It was me, alright (p.364). Casey is taken by two deputies, but appears to be proud because he knows he has done the right thing. Between his guards Casey sat proudly, his head up and the stringy muscles of his neck prominent (p.364). He gives up his freedom so the Joads can accomplish their dreams as a family. Tom then meets Muley Graves, an old neighbor. Muley shows animal like characteristics and acts like a mule. Just like a mule, Muley is stubborn. ... ...ouldnt share. So Ruthie got mad an chased em, an she fit one, an then she fit another, an then one big girl got up an licked her (p.563). Although she appears to be strong in reality she is weak . Grapes are the fruit of the vine something sweet. But in actuality for the Joads they are a disappointment. The Joads talk about them as being this marvelous fruit that will bring them a better life. They will pick the grapes and earn money. But as they stare at the open fields they absorb that it is all erect a dream. There are no grapes. They continuously think of the grapes as an escape from their depression. The grapes would be so fruitful that they would be adapted to bathe in the sweetness, but in their case it turns out completely different. Discussing the symbols of the dust, the turtle, the names, and the grapes makes the reader aware of another aspect of the story. The reader is able to realize just how well Steinbeck is able to bring his stories to life. As a reader you learn to appreciate his style of writing. Once you read his books you realize that he is not all a author, but an artist too. Bibliography the symbols in the Grapes of Wrath Word Count 1716

The African Religion Vodu and Catholicism Essay examples -- voodoo, bla

The terms voodoo, hoodoo, black magic and conjure arouse different ideas and interpretations such as fear, fascination, or repugnance. For some, the image of voodoo dolls, which be used to bring pain to the ones enemy are associated with these words. Others might consider curses and spells used for repulsiveness intentions to be at the heart of voodoo. A more innocent notion of voodoo encompasses the idea that it is to be used for the communal good. All of these ideas came together and merged with Christian and Catholic beliefs after Africans were transported to the Americas and subjected to unacceptable horrors as slaves. Many historians define voodoo as a syncretism between the African religion Vodu and Catholicism. juju is an entirely new creation, which was born as the African slaves were confronted with New World religions. These new ideas were camouflaged as European saints, the Orisha divinities continued to be invoked, fed, and celebrated by their transplanted New W orld devotees, who in turn evaluate protection and assistance from their ancient spiritual guardian. In some cases, slaves used the culturally accepted Catholic saints as a cover for their ancestral beliefs which were lots seen as foolish and heretical by their masters. This new belief system met new world needs that the settled and passive African modes could not match. Voodoo held an important part in many slaves lives as remnants of their African beliefs evolved into a meaningful and powerful force. Voodoo was an essential element of survival for many slaves because it helped them get by psychologically with the physical torment they endured, it gave them a sense of power in impossibly difficult situations, and it served as a unifying force.Vo... ...e and was treated as an evil force which needed to be shunned by all. The views of voodoo within the outside community continued to transform into something that was more entertaining than menacing. Eventually the practices spread beyond slave communities and continued after slavery was abolished, leaving behind a legacy that looked almost nothing like the original African predecessor.Works Cited Wilkie 141. e-mail Junk Email The fictional story The Case of the Spam Stalker was based on my research and interest in the topic of junk email or netmail. I was able to think of this topic because of the incredulous amount of junk email that I was receiving at my America Online email account. In fact, I received so much junk mail that I decided to switch to another account with Lycos. Because I was having so much of a problem with unwanted mail, I figured that there were many more people with this problem. Hence, I decided to do my research project on junk email, otherwise known as spam. Similarly, my story involves the main event having to switch her email accounts because of the increasing volume of junk mail that she received. Throughout the story, the character presents situations in which she is able to inform the reader of what spam is, where it comes from, how to get disengage of it, and what the laws atomic number 18 concerning spam. Mckinsey Accounting and Engineering Advisors Essay

The firm was founded in 1926 by university of Chicago professor, James (Mac) McKinsey, it was called accounting and engineering advisors. Mac started recruiting experienced executives and training them in the integrated progression he called his General Survey outline. In Saturday morning sessions he would lead consultants through an undeviating sequence of analysis goals, strategy, policies, organisation, facilities, procedures and personnel while still promote them to synthesize data and think for themselves. McKinseys mission was to help clients make positive, lasting, and substantial improvements in their performance and to build a great firm that is adapted to attract, organise, excite, and retain exceptional people. mandrels vision of the firm was one focused on issues of importance and top-level management, adhering to the highest standards of integrity, professional ethics, and technical excellence, able to attract and develop young men of outstanding qualifications, a nd committed to continually raising its stature and influence. Above all, it was to be a firm dedicated to the mission of serving its clients terrifically well. Bower also articulated a policy that every assignment should bring the firm something more than revenue experience or prestige for example. Bower and his colleagues believed that well-trained, highly intelligent generalists could quickly grasp the issue, and through disciplined analysis find its solution. The firm grew extraordinarily domestically in the 1950s which provided a innovation for international expansion that accelerated the rate of growth in the 1960s. Offices opened in London, Geneva, Amsterdam, Dsseldorf and Paris. McKinsey was now a well established and highly respect presence in Europe and North America. To Gupta the task of association development had become much more complex over the past decade or so due to three intersecting forces In an increasingly information and acquaintance driven age, the sheer volume and rate of change of new cognition made the task much more complex Clients expectations of and need for leading edge expertise were constantly increasing The firms own achievement had made it much more difficult to link and leverage the knowledge and expertise represented by 3800 consultants in 69 offices worldwide.Gupta believed that knowledge is the lifeblood of McKinsey. How does knowledge farm value for McKinsey and Company?Creating value for a firm means performing activities that increase the value of goods or services to consumers. McKinsey does this by trying not hardly to serve its clients but also to develop its consultants. Bower and his colleagues believed that well-trained, highly intelligent generalists could quickly grasp the issue, and through disciplined analysis find its solution. Because of the use of knowledge management one of McKinseys clients managing director reflected on a certain outcome that their value added was in their access to knowledge, th e intellectual rigor they bring, and their ability to build understanding and consensus among a diverse management group. In 1980 when Gluck joined the central small group that comprised the firm office he proposed that knowledge development had to be central, not a peripheral firm activity that it needed to be ongoing and institutionalised, not temporary and project based and that it had to be the responsibility of everyone, not just a few. Gluck was trying to build a shared body of knowledge end-to-end the firm. Even though doing this may be dearly-won Gluck was hoping the benefits would outweigh the expenses.Knowledge had created value for McKinsey and Company through that its clients impact studies indicated that the new knowledge structure led to a longer-term focus on deeper understanding of issues.McKinsey and Companys use of knowledge throughout the firm helped build long lasting client relationships. Gupta believed that knowledge was the core factor in being successful in the long run. Knowledge is a fundamental value for the McKinsey and Company. Even though focusing on developing knowledge throughout the firm may lead to less client work Gupta argued that it was still worth it and would increase value for the firm in the long term.Critically guess the companys velvet knowledge management strategy. I.e people.Soft knowledge management is less quantifiable and cannot be captured codified and stored easily (Kidd, 1994 Skyrme, 1998) Tacit knowledge is an example of soft knowledge. Tacit knowledge cannot be easily communicated and shared, is highly personal, deep rooted in action and in an individuals intimacy within a specific context. It is commonly referred to as the knowledge in peoples heads. Soft knowledge becomes accepted by virtue of light authority and consensus within the group.(Hildreth, Wright and Kimble, 2005). Gluck felt that there was a need to adjust the firms knowledge development focus. He believed that knowledge is only priceless when it is between the ears of consultants and applied to clients problems. Knowledge is less effectively developed through the disciplined work a few than through the spontaneous interaction of many. He changed the more structured discover-codify-disseminate model to an engage-explore-apply-share approach. Which is, a more loose approach. Even though McKinsey had adopted hard knowledge approaches, it still relied heavily on soft knowledge components, such as personal networks, old practices like cross-office transfers and strong one firm norms like helping other consultants when they called. Unlike the hard knowledge approach the transfer of knowledge with the soft approach is not through databases and Knowledge Resource Directorys it is a more informal method. It is when the older cater of the firm helps and teaches the new comers by sharing their experience and knowledge.

Although Protestants

The end of 20th Century saw denominationalism crop up in the church which was eroding the traditions upon which the Christian faith was based. Although Protestants started a good social function, in the end it spurned out of control as many sought to view as a denomination that could give them an identity and a sense of purpose in the carrying out the mission of Christianity.Denominationalism has been hailed as an evil thought exclusively ironically it is replacing the religious practices. In the old times, it was associated with ethnic, racial or even class division but with modern times it has evolved to stratification through secularisation and education.Sociological analysis is playing a part in disseminating this information because of the way the American society has become polarized especially when it comes to religion (Christianity). Many deal have locomote from the main stream churches and have found identities in the modern charismatic churches that do not so much revo lve around traditions but argon embracing modern ideologies and secularization. In the old times, people used to stick to one denomination (church) for a lifetime but now things have changed with people switching churches at least once in lifetime. The aspect of denominationalism is a new aspect to me which I thought was a normal thing but its interesting to know that it was based on ethnic or even racial differences in the early days of Christianity. In the advent of modernization, it has evolved to be discrimination based on education, and doctrinal bases and going world wide. Many people join churches without knowing what or why the churches are founded just to get a religious identity. Religion is something that is aimed at bringing and uniting people together and denominationalism may be doing that but the underlying reasons are wrong. The cropping of this practice come up as a result of difficult in maintaining the religious traditions mainly due to the liberal nature of people wanting to embrace their own identities and in addition the conservatives loosing their moral authority towards the 21st century. The important message that this article is putting through is that the divisions in Christianity should not be there in the first touch because they contradict the tenets of Christianity. It is a noble idea but bringing people together does not involve segregation of others in order to give a sense of identity to a few people.ConclusionDenominationalism has been portrayed more negative than positive which I do not agree because as the article points out, it gives a sense of identity to different people and there is no way all people can fit in one denomination but that does not call for establishment of many denominations.People do not subscribe to the same doctrinal values and therefore whichever denomination they are comfortable in, it is their well(p) to go there. The idea of denominationalism has been portrayed as a division in the Christianity faith which may be true but I do not agree with it.There is no such thing as the standard way of doing things but somehow things have to be done and as prospicient as they are not contravening the law and are morally right, then they ought to be followed. According to me this is the basis of denominationalism where it is based on the way we action different religious practices and rites like singing, praying and preaching. This article has merely aroused curiosity about denominationalism and it has not dug in deep to bring palpable evidence of what it has caused in the society and what can be done about it. The article has done it as an overview and therefore it should address the issue in reconditeness and how modern Christians can cope with it in embracing their faith and keeping their identity intact.ReferenceNancy, T. Children, Young People and Families Essay

Case Study Four (appendix atomic number 53) describes a family which due to multiple issues including separated p arnts with psychological health needs, siblings living apart, aggressive behaviour and truancy they present an extremely complex case for any social worker. It foc delectations on the story of C altogetherum and his current berth with brief mention of his brother and two sisters. I will explore the legal and polity guidance along with relevant theories and values that would inform and address social work practice in relation to Callum as the majority of the information relates to him.The Every Child Matters (ECM) Green Paper introduced wide spread policy change and was underpinned by law in the 2004 Children Act. The ECM requires that social workers support the parents and carers instead of removing children to long term care (Hodge, 2004). For example the ECM set off the agenda for the unification of local childrens services such as schools, GPs, social services an d so on (Hodge, 2004). The idea of a holistic approach to a persons needs by removing the legislative barriers between inter agency information sharing, directs services to work together towards a mutual aim which is what is best for the child in this case Callum.Another unwrap theme set out in the ECM is early intervention, which meat that children should receive the appropriate help then need but when they need it. An important step in reaching this goal is the use of the Common mind Framework (CAF). For Callum and others the CAF aims to put their needs ahead of the agencies agenda (Gilligan, 2008). The entire processshould be guided by a clear professional whose job it is to lead and follow up actions with all agencies involved while being the primary contact for the child with the extra needs, this helps when a child is work with more than one professional as it can easily become disorientating and counterproductive for the child developmentally to be dealing with multiple professionals (Howarth, 2010).For Callum and his family the CAF would be used by the local anaesthetic Authority (LA) to assess the needs of the children and the family as under S.47 of the Children Act they have a duty to do so (Calder and Hackett, 2013). Within the assessment three key areas are explored. Firstly Callums developmental needs, parental capacity which although his mother is currently unable to demonstrate capacity to care for Callum the new policy background assures that she will be fully assessed and supported where possible if it is in Callums best interests to have an input in his life.Lastly family and environmental factors (Calder and Hackett, 2013). The three heart and soul assessment areas are explored in more detail in the assessment textile triangle. During the assessment the social worker gains information required from individuals involved including family members and all supporting agencies. The plan is to build a complete picture that will allow the social worker to begin to look at different theories and look into which may offer insight or explanation for Callums behaviours.Professor Nick Frost (2013) when discussing the lessons learned from a Serious Case Review echoes the findings of the sake report (2001) stating that the decisions undertaken by social workers on a daily basis, often with very little time, are extremely complex and involve a elevated degree of uncertainty. This roughlything that the CAF attempts to address as it is to be approached as a partnership between services the young people and their families (Calder and Hackett, 2013). Each of the three sections of the assessment framework triangle are gone into in much more detail and guidance for this is laid out in the CAF guidelines. In order to make use of the information gained a robust foundation of knowledge is required to deliver evidenced based practice. For example When looking at Callums Health areall his needs being met to enable him to develop phy sically as he should. He is staying out late and not attending school so we can reasonably assume that he may not be getting sufficient food or rest. The medical model suggests that without regular and nutritive meals and adequate rest Callums physical development will be retarded (Cowie, 2012). This is a rather simplistic example though it effectively demonstrates how look into directly informs practice. The new policy also calls for flexibility so that services can be provided parallel to the assessment process meaning that children and their families dont need to wait until after the assessment process to start receiving support (Calder and Hackett, 2013). When Callums physical needs are identified it is possible then without remain to for example refer him to his GP for an examination to assess his physical condition.Further along the childs developmental needs assessment we come to wound up and behavioural development which looks at characteristics like the childs temperame nt, self control and how they respond to stress. These are all heavily informed by a broad base of research and theories some of which have conflicting views on how certain behaviours can be explained (Calder and Hackett, 2013).Before I look at some theories that would inform practice in relation to the case study I think it is helpful to look at how Beckett (2006) explains how social workers find a result by first seeking for explanations. This he says is looking at the information gathered from the assessment and trying to find a theory that we think fits and them hand the relevant intervention. He calls these past orientated approaches, in the case of Callum we look at his past to try and find out why things are the personal manner they are (Beckett, 2006). Callum is displaying aggressive behaviour, he resisted foster carers and now that he is back in a childrens home he stays out on occasion with his father.Attachment theory has plenty of empirical evidence and suggests that Callum like us all is hard wired to seek a relationship with his carer, in this case the attachment with his father is still felt by him. Bowlbys (2005) work on attachment suggests that during our formative years we develop an internal working model (IWM) from our initialattachments, the resulting quality of the IWM is dependent on the quality of the original attachments. In Callums case he quality of this attachment could be questionable. Cassidy (1988, cited in Cowie, 2012, p.49)BibliographyBowlby, J. 2005. A secure base. Budweiserâۉ„¢s Internal Constraints

Budweiser is produced by Anheuser-Busch Companies (Anheuser-Busch), one of the worlds largest brewers best known for its Budweiser and Bud Light brands. The group is a leading brewer and operates 12 breweries in the United States (Company Website, 2007). As a company, Anheuser-Buschs internal constraints are as follows 1. High dependence on domestic beer division Although the company operates done four business segments including domestic beer, international beer, packaging and entertainment it is still dependant on the domestic beer segment for majority of its revenue.During the fiscal year finishing 2006, company generated approximately 74. 8% of its total revenue from the domestic beer segment. In contrast the other three segments accounted for only 25. 2 % of the total revenue during the identical period. Strong dependence on a particular segment increases the business risk of the company thereby putting it in a competitive single out (Anheuser-Busch yearly Report, 2006). Thi s is why Anheuser-Busch is currently battling for a presence in China, the worlds largest beer market, as state owned breweries seek foreign help with privatization. In 2004, Anheuser-Busch outbid Miller for the Harbin Brewing Group of China (Modern Brewery Age, Weekly News Edition, June 14, 2004). This year, Anheuser-Busch may acquire Scottish & Newcastles 37. 5% stake in India-based United Breweries. 2. ) Poor liquidness position Anheuser-Busch has substantial outstanding long-term debt. As of December 2006, the company had long term debt of approximately $7,653. 5 million. The companys debt equity ratio is 2. 2 generation which is quite high as compared to industry average of 1. 3 propagation. The companys interest coverage ratio is 6. 2 as compared to industry average of 10. 1 times (Anheuser-Busch Annual Report, 2006). This ratio clearly signifies that the liquidity position of the company is bad and this would hamper companys credibility in the market and would be effortful for them to raise money from the market for their expansion plans. 3. ) High dependence on wholesalers Anheuser-Busch sells substantially all of its beer to independent wholesalers for distribution to retailers and ultimately consumers.During 2006, approximately 94% of the beer exchange by the company, reached retail channels through more than 600 independent wholesalers (Anheuser-Busch Annual Report, 2006). In 2007, Anheuser-Busch was appointed as the United States importer for a number of the premium European brands of InBev (International Herald Tribune, 4 February 2008). Many of the wholesalers of these brands have not traditionally been wholesalers for Anheuser-Busch. As independent companies, wholesalers make their own business decisions that may not always order themselves with the companys interests.Dependence of the company on the wholesalers may affect the bargaining power of the company in the market, thus affecting its financial performance. ICT Meeting Special Needs Essay

IntroductionIn this report I will describe a wide range of technologies which Tony Mcnulty, who is disabled, with an evaluation of the extent to which these extend to their necessarily. Tony is paralyzed so he arsehole no prolonged use his hands and legs properly. Some clips Tony cannot hear very well sometimes and has to learn sentences ingeminate to him several times. Tony was formally an architect but he fell off a building site whilst on a task. He now labors his faculty to go on sites and he draws the designs at home. Tony is c bed for by his brother but is married with three children. Tony normally goes push through with his relay links to pubs and clubs with people with similar disabilities.Technology 1Electronic Wheelch beamAn electronic wheelchair is a wheelchair which uses a bombardment (usually a gel cell or wet cell) that must be re-charged on a invariable basis. These types of wheelchairs are signifi anglely heavier than most manual wheelchairs because they must stick out both the barrage fire weight and the weight of any additional adaptive equipment.AdvantagesThe advantages of electronic wheelchairs are that they are powered by a outpouring which means less physical use of the body for those who find it hard to use their hands properly. another(prenominal) advantage of electronic wheelchairs is that there is no motive for someone to assist you can go by yourself. some other advantage is that it easier going uphill because you are not using up any of your energy.DisadvantagesThe disadvantages of electronic wheelchairs are that they cannot be folded like manual wheelchairs so this may be a problem in small houses. Another disadvantage is that the battery runs out and needs to be charged so you can not travel far without it needing a recharge. ain call forAn electronic wheelchair meets Tonys personal needs because he can go out anywhere he wants to go without the need of assistance from anyone. He also goes out and does shopping if his carers are not at home.An electronic wheelchair meets Tonys personal needs because Tony has the chance to go out for fresh air for longer and more often because if Tony used a manual wheelchair he gets tired of moving it with his hands so would then have to go spine home. Another personal use that Tony uses the wheelchair for is to go shopping, the wheelchair earmarks him to do this on his own, as it can lift to reach products on high shelves and it can also arise steps, kernel that he can go shopping nearly anywhere without being assisted by a family member or a friend to help him. But with his power wheelchair he goes out for a lot longer but he has to be back home before the battery runs out. military rank of how it meets his personal needsIt can be found from the personal needs above that the Electronic wheelchair fairly effective at concussion Tonys needs. This is because Tony needs the wheelchair to be able to run for at least 6 or 7 hours at the time, and it ca n do this very easily, this is as the battery life of the voltaic wheelchair is reasonably long and it can allow Tony to stay on the move for long periods of time. Also because the systema skeletale of the Wheelchair is so strong, it allows him to do a lot of things. For example the wheelchair has the ability to climb steps, and without the strong frame it would simply break apart under Tonys weight, so therefore the strong frame allows the technology to meet his needs even more effectively as it proves that it is dependable and will not crack under pressure. Electric wheelchair is main(prenominal)ly positive, moreover it has some problems, one being that because it is so heavy due to its metal frame, Tony finds it hard to travel with it meaning that he cant really go on holi daytime on his own or even fold it away when he is at home, although he never really does as he cant walk. This means that the electric wheelchair is not completely successful at meeting Tonys needs, but i t is the best thing for it as other forms of wheelchair simply do not have enough functions to help Tony.Social NeedsAn electronic wheelchair meets Tonys kindly needs because he can take it to go out with his friends and family on outings. He also doesnt have to worry about the battery running out because his friends or family members push him home whenever this does happen.Electronic wheelchairs allow Tony to more free time because he is going out with his friends so he can get to the destination faster rather than pushing a manual wheelchair around and having to stop for quick breaks when he gets tired. He can also set other dates to go out on his days off. The electric wheelchair has readily become an integral part of his neighborly life as it simply has allowed him to do things he was not able to do before, such as going out for a drink or even going to go and watch a football match with his mates. As the Technology meets this need, it gives him the hazard to go out with fri ends to bars and restaurants, which is his main social need.Evaluation of how it meets his Social needsThe Electric wheelchair is almost perfect at meeting Tonys social needs as it has almost all the properties needed to meet his social needs. Due to its reasonably long battery life it allows him to successfully meet his social needs, such as going out for lengthy periods of time, giving him more time to enjoy himself. The electric wheelchair is one of his most helpful tools that help him bruise his disability, but even this technology has some problems. For example due to it being quite dangerous because it is vulnerable to faults, such as the brakes not inclineing. maestro NeedsTony uses his electronic wheelchair in his professional life because he cant walk properly very much without falling so he takes his electronic wheelchair to trifle so he can look around the building site properlyAn electronic wheelchair meets Tonys professional needs because he can look around the build ing site properly without having to tell his staff to look around all of the time and prove suggestions. The electric wheelchair is a vital part of Tonys temptplace, in terms of mobility. As I have said earlier, Tony is an architect, and this involves a large number of tasks that are almost unachievable for him. Especially the electric wheelchair, it allows him to perform the most crucial part of being an architect. It lets him get to sites on time and then move around the site so that he can keep on top of all his jobs and do it on his own, as the wheelchair allows him to move freely in and around his workplace. Another all- consequential(prenominal) need of Tony that he has at work is that he needs to be able to go up stairs to view sites which require climbing stairs so his wheelchair allows him to climb stairs as it has this function, meaning that he can get around work without having to get people to carry him up stairs.Evaluation of how it meets his professional needsOvera ll the technology is very effective at meeting Tonys professional needs. It gives him the opportunity to move around building sites freely as the wheelchair can get through the tightest spaces, meaning that is effective at meeting his need off moving around building sites effectively. Also because the battery life of the wheelchair is quite long it can get him through the average 9 to 5 day and even more as it is possible for the day to be delayed. Therefore the electric wheelchair helps Tony get through any un-suspected surprises that might come up at work. This makes the wheelchair very reliable as it is not notwithstanding mobile but very reliable and Tony can almost always depend on it. Although the wheelchair is very good at meeting Tonys work needs, it lacks a few things, for example, if Tony had a worst job he would not be able to afford the wheelchair that he has and he might not be able to keep his job without it. Also because the wheelchair can be dangerous sometimes, he often needs the help of colleagues to help him out in plastered situations, such as opening doors or getting down stairs.Technology 2 transcribe KeyboardThe transliterate keyboard was designed to stop the development of Carpal cut into Syndrome, Cumulative Trauma Disorders, Repetitive Motion Syndrome, Repetitive Strain Disorders and Repetitive Stress Injuries, and other injuries. Your entire upper body and arms are relaxed as your wrists remain straight while you type.AdvantagesThe advantages of a Braille keyboard are that it helps stop the development of many diseases which may save you lots of pain in the future.DisadvantagesThe main disadvantage of a Braille keyboard is that it costs more than a standard keyboard so this may be a problem for people that cant work.Personal NeedsTony uses his Braille keyboard in his free time when he is using his computer at home he mainly uses it to browse the internet. He also uses it to type letters to companies and spreadsheets for tax purpo ses.A Braille keyboard meets Tonys personal needs because he uses the internet on a daily basis. Although he can use a standard keyboard it puts lots of strain in his hands so he then has to stop. Another need it meets is that it allows him to use a computer that he can surf the internet and do any other things he may want to do. Also a Braille keyboard allows him to make notes and type letters to people through meaning that he no longer has to rely on a notepad and pen.Evaluation of how it meets his personal needsThe Braille keyboard is very successful at meeting Tonys personal needs. This is because it allows him to do a lot of things he was unable to do before on his own, in the main communicating with people in spare time which he was unable to do before due to his disability. Also the fact that he no longer has to rely on people to help him around the house means that the Braille Keyboard does its job really well when he is actually spending time on the computer. The Braille k eyboard is also very successful at meeting Tonys personal needs as he can connect it to his wheelchair and have it with him almost everywhere, meaning that not only can he be independent at home but also outside the home. Therefore he can use it like a laptop. Although the Braille keyboard seems to be great it has some setbacks. For example it is very expensive and Tony had to save every penny to get it, meaning that there was a chance he could not get the keyboard. This is because he has already had to invest in other expensive technologies to meet his needs such as the Electronic wheelchair.Professional NeedsThe Braille keyboard has eventually become the heart of Tonys workplace as it allows him to do his job in almost the same way as he used to do before he sustained his disability. The keyboard gives him the opportunity to go to building sites again and to happen his job as he used to, maybe not as fast as before and with a few mistakes but there is no doubt that slowly it allo ws him to get back to a normal architects organization. Being a architect also involves a lot of computer input and the Braille keyboard allows him to do it very easily so he can input as much information as he wants into any kinds of types of programs, such as typing letters in Microsoft Word or creating spreadsheets in Microsoft Excel.Evaluation of how it meets his professional needsThe Braille keyboard is efficient at meeting Tonys work needs. It gives him the chance to once again have the same work life as he had before his accident by allowing him to do things that are important to his job that he could not do without it. For example with the keyboard he can still create designs which are required of him as an architect. Therefore this allows him to do his job even though he has a disability. Also because it can be connected to a computer it allows him to complete any computer input he may have at his berth without the use of extra technologies such as a tracker ball mouse or a single touch keyboard, meaning that it is very effective as it incorporates a few technologies in one. However the Braille keyboard sometimes has problems inputting information into a computer as he sometimes finds it hard to fully control his hands meaning that the Braille keyboard is not always fully successful at meeting Tonys work needs.Technology 3Stair liftA stair lift is for people who cannot use their own feet to climb the stairs or for people who sometimes get dizzy whilst climbing the stairs.AdvantagesThe advantages of stair lifts are that you can climb the stairs without being afraid that you will fall and you can climb the stairs any time of the day without the worry of possibly having to climb the stairs.DisadvantagesThe disadvantages of stair lifts are that most stair lifts are very expensive to buy and maintain. Another disadvantage is that if the lift stops working the person may not be able to climb the stairs until the lift is back working.Personal NeedsTony use s a stair lift personally as he has to climb the stairs to go to any of the retinue. He also has to have a shower bath upstairs so he uses the lift many times a day. Tony also has to use the lift to get to his bedroom when he is going to sleep.A stair lift meets Tonys personal needs because he uses the lift many times a day and cannot live in his own house without it. Tony has to use the lift every day and several times a day. Also the stair lift has allowed him to and from his own room as he can now use the stair lift without the fear of falling down the stairs. The stair lift can also be used by him to drop dead with friends through email, as he has to climb the stairs to get to his computer.Evaluation of how it meets his personal needsThe single finger keyboard is good at meeting at Tonys needs, this is as the stair lift is very easy to use and it takes little time to get used to operating it. This means that Tony learns how to use more and more technologies so if he bought an other similar technology it would not be very hard for him to use as he can quickly learn the ins and outs of this easy to device. The stair lift is also very good at meeting Tonys personal needs as it is reasonably sleazy and he doesnt have to spend large amounts of cash in order to be able to climb stairs, this allows him to save money for more necessary things.Professional NeedsTony uses the stair lift for a number of important work needs. One of the most important was that the stair lift allowed him to get to his office on the second floor of his home, meaning that he could do his job again even though at a slower pace.Another need that it met was that he could transport documents whilst on the stair lift without needing someone to help him. Also with the help of the stair lift he can gain admission fee to his computer which is also in his office so he can once again type letters to clients and business partners without having someone to do it for him, meaning that he can do most of the real important things that an architect has to do.Evaluation of how it meets his professional needsThe stair lift is good at meeting his work needs as it allows him to do one of the most important architect tasks, which are computer designs. This means that his work life can go back to an almost normal state, as the stair lift is very good at helping him work through the disability and resuming a almost normal working life. Without the stair lift he would have had to move his office downstairs then he would have had to sacrifice one of the rooms downstairs to make way for his office. Due to the large amounts of work that have to be done in a architects office, the keyboard frequently has to be maintained as it is cheap parts and it can easily break, meaning that it could break at any moment, not letting Tony work until he gets a replacement or he has to wait for an engineer to fix it for him. Therefore the stair lift doesnt completely meet Tonys work needs.

The various States in Western Europe became more centralized, and monarchs exercised more control everyplace their subjects. Christopher Columbuss voyage to the States and his return truly began the newborn age of exploration for Europe. This New World discovery greatly alter the lives of Native Americans, forcing them to live with colonists and people they had never been in contact with.Meanwhile, Prince Henrys expeditions opened up new opportunities for trade in Africa. Through the period of 1492-1750, many things falsifyd but parts of life stayed the alike(p) such as the European domination and the presence of trade in Africa. New contacts among Western Europe, Africa, and the Americas, however, guide to interaction that has evolved greatly over the span of time. The new contacts and increased trade directly cause the rise in power in the Mi ddle-Class in Europe.Throughout the feudal period, the control of the power and liberales was in the hands of the Nobles. As trade with Africa and the Americas increased, however, a new merchant company rose. As the new class became wealthier, they began to agitate for political power, sparking large battle like the 1789 French Revolution. The social changes in the Americas were unprecedented. The diseases brought over that the Europeans were so utilize to like measles and smallpox decimated the Native Americans because they had no previous contact with those illnesses. whiz example of this is when disease infested blankets were gifted to the Aztecs by Hernan Cortez during his quest to conquer them. These tactics were then later used to take down the Incas. Native Americans were suppressed into being slaves and or servants to the Europeans. A similar trend occurred in North America. Unlike the Aztecs or Incas, North American natives were decentralized, and loosely organized by t ribes. Columbuss initial subjugation of the Haitians, forcing them to mine gold, set a precedent for future domination.Africa was greatly affected by the slave trade. Large, constant amounts of labor were needed on the Spanish and Portuguese sugarcane plantations, and Native American populations were often unable or unwilling to work as slaves. Especially after Bartolome de las Casass charge against the enslavement of Native Americans, the Europeans were desperate another source of cheap labor. Because of this, the Atlantic slave trade began, author a long and cruel period of time where as many as 12 cardinal slaves for transported from Africa to the Americas. This mass slave trade had both positive and negative effects on African society. Although thraldom was cruel and abusive, the money some empires acquired from working with the Europeans enabled them to create stronger relations and improve overall. Despite the massive change taking place, there were various aspects of life that stayed the same. In Western Europe, the large gap between the rich and the poor was still present even though a stronger and more powerful middle class had developed, the power was still in the hands of an elite tier of people.Literally every West Europe country was controlled by a monarchy, with barely any representation. In Britain for example, only 2% of the population could pick out due to restrictions and laws. In the Americas, many tribes were still able to keep their traditional way of life. Usually, tribes unsettled by the British settlers in North America migrated westward, and since the French had yet to take control of the Louisiana Territory, they were forego to continue with their traditional methods. Africa was still almost completely free.It wasnt until the 1880s that Africa started to become majorly colonized. Though they were slight powerful than the Western Europeans, the African nations remained independent and were directly reliant on trade In cultivatio n the interaction between Western Europe, Africa, and the Americas resulted in both change and continuity. A major trend that is permanent was the newfound connection between regions. Columbus joined the New World with Europe, creating a strong relationship that still stands today. Therefore, interaction between 1492 and 1750 set a precedent for future actions.

Kinetics is concerned with the measure of reaction rates of that proceed under specific conditions of pressure, temperature and concentration. This paper seeks to compare and contrast kinetics and thermodynamics.Thermodynamics is complementary to the theory of kinetic. It provides the relations amid the physical properties of a system under specified measurements, while kinetics enables the calculations of the magnitude of the systems properties. Thermodynamics determines the equilibrium of the reaction, the constant of the equilibrium, and it is also determined by enthalpy and entropy. On the other hand, kinetics determines the rate and speed of the reaction, the constant of the rate and it is determined by the activation energy. Thermodynamics and kinetics are wherefore cerebrate to one another in a chemic al reaction. As described in the above paragraph, a chemical reaction contains aspects of both thermodynamics and kinetics. The kinetics related quantities are constant rate which is associated with the required activation energy for reaction to move forward, while thermodynamics is associated with the energy difference that results from a free energy released in the process of a chemical reaction. Although kinetics defines the speed and rate of reaction, they dont specify conditions of the equilibrium. On the same note, thermodynamics only details the equilibrium conditions and says nothing about the rate and speed of reaction hence the two are related and complement each
